Project Overview In-Progress
The North Boat Launch Area at Homer Lake Forest Preserve is a popular access point for fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. Improvements at the launch will help maintain existing infrastructure to ensure its longevity and will also improve accessibility, giving even more people access to nature at Homer Lake. The Forest Preserves received funding from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) via a Boat Access and Development (BAAD) grant. Additional funding was raised by the Forest Preserve Friends Foundation.
To date, the launch has been installated and the accessible path and parking will be completed next.
Improvements being made include:
- Reconstructing the retaining wall
- Refurbishing the dock
- Adding ADA parking
- Adding a concrete path
- Adding an ADA canoe/kayak launch
