Hiking Trails Across the Preserves

Lake of the Woods Forest Preserve Trails

Lake of the Woods offers a diversity of trail opportunities, from paved bike paths to forested hiking, and a StoryWalk trail!

Homer Lake Forest Preserve Trails

Homer Lake offers approximately 10 miles of trails all around the lake as well additional trails at Hidden Acres, a satellite preserve nearby.

Middle Fork River Forest Preserve Trails

Middle Fork River is Illinois' first International Dark Sky Park, and the trails here access some of the best stargazing in the state. 

Sangamon River Forest Preserve Trails

Sangamon River has several loops of beautiful forested and prairie trails along the Sangamon River.

Heron View Forest Preserve Trails

Heron View offers rustic trails that follow the Sangamon River and its floodplain, offering beautiful views of spring wildflowers and the river. 

River Bend Forest Preserve

River Bend offers several miles of trails that meander between the Sangmon River and Sunset Lake.
